First-time fix rate is the share of jobs resolved on the first visit, with no second trip for parts, tools, skills or information.
How it is calculated
- First-time fix rate = (completed jobs − jobs needing a return visit) ÷ completed jobs × 100
Worked example
With the starting values shown in the calculator:
- Completed jobs: 180
- Jobs that needed a return visit: 27
- First-time fix rate: 85.0%
- Jobs fixed on the first visit: 153
- Return visits per 100 jobs: 15
Using the result
Decide what counts as a return visit and keep the definition the same every month. Record the reason for each one: part not on the truck, wrong diagnosis, not enough time, or customer not ready. The reasons tell you whether to fix truck stock, training or scheduling.
