Who we write for
Technicians, dispatchers and owners of small service businesses across the United States.
fieldservice.in is a free resource for people who do field service work in the United States: HVAC, plumbing and electrical technicians, appliance and equipment repair techs, installers, inspectors, dispatchers and the owners of small service businesses.
What you will find here
- Calculators for pay, overtime, mileage, job pricing, margins and service KPIs. Each one shows the formula it uses and a worked example.
- Templates such as checklists, logs and worksheets you can print or fill in on a job.
- Articles and field guides on technician life, careers, money, operations, the trades and field service technology.
Why this site exists
Most field service information online is written to sell dispatch or invoicing software. We wanted a place that answers the everyday questions directly. What does this overtime shift pay? What should a service call cost so the job is not a loss? Is our callback rate normal? Every page here should help you calculate, decide, document or learn something you need for the job.
How we work
- We keep the basic calculators and articles free.
- We show our formulas so you can check the math yourself.
- We cite primary sources such as the IRS, the U.S. Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics when we quote a rate or a rule.
- We label estimates as estimates. Our tools are for planning and education and do not replace manufacturer data, local codes or professional advice.
- We fix mistakes quickly. See our fact checking policy.
How the site is funded
The site is supported by paid templates and memberships, and some pages may contain affiliate links. Our affiliate disclosure explains how that works. Payment never decides what we recommend.
