Enter your rate and hours to see what an overtime week pays. Change the multiplier to 2 for double time.
How it is calculated
- Regular pay = hourly rate × regular hours
- Overtime pay = hourly rate × overtime multiplier × overtime hours
- Blended hourly rate = total pay ÷ total hours
Worked example
With the starting values shown in the calculator:
- Hourly rate: $28.00
- Regular hours: 40
- Overtime hours: 8
- Overtime multiplier: 1.5
- Regular pay: $1,120.00
- Overtime pay: $336.00
- Total pay for the week: $1,456.00
- Blended hourly rate: $30.33
Using the result
Under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, most hourly (non-exempt) employees must be paid at least 1.5 times their regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek. Some states add their own rules. California, for example, also requires overtime after 8 hours in a day. Bonuses and some other pay can raise your regular rate, so treat this as an estimate and check your state rules and your pay stub.
